SEOUL, (May 14 ) – Kia Corporation (Kia) has unveiled the new EV6, an enhanced version of the first EV model based on the brand’s innovative Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). The significantly revised EV6 features a refreshed exterior design, improved battery performance and a wider range of convenience features.
The new EV6 embodies Kia’s refreshed and familiar exterior design with its striking and dynamic aesthetics. Powered by a new fourth-generation 84kWh battery, it boasts an impressive range of up to 494km on a single charge according to the Korean standard.
Since its launch in August 2021, the EV6 has gained popularity for its groundbreaking design and advanced technology, achieving sales of over 210,000 units worldwide. Notably, the EV6 made history as the first Korean car to win the coveted European Car of the Year title in 2022.
It also took home the prestigious 2023 North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year award in the SUV category, while the high-performance EV6 GT was recognized at the 2023 World Car Awards in the World Performance Car category, further cementing the EV6’s leadership position in the global electric vehicle market.
Enhanced exterior design with signature Star Map lighting
Adopting the concept of ‘Modern Contrast’, the new EV6 showcases Kia’s fresh new family look. The front of the car now features stylish daytime running lights (DRL) incorporating Kia’s innovative signature Star Map illumination, giving the car a futuristic and expansive look.
The overall aesthetic is further enhanced by the flowing character line that seamlessly connects the bonnet to the lower section of the vehicle, as well as the captivating wing-shaped bumper design, which adds an additional element of dynamism.
Elevated indoor environment
The interior of the new EV6 features elegant design elements that enhance its luxurious and modern ambience. The panoramic curved display combines sophisticated design with a feeling of spaciousness and cleanliness. New ambient lighting accentuates the horizontal shapes of the new EV6’s updated interior, creating a visually striking effect.
To amplify the car’s sporty character, the EV6 features a newly designed steering wheel and an updated crash mat incorporating a stylish new pattern. For added convenience, a fingerprint recognition system has been integrated into the centre console, allowing users to upload their driver profile and complete authentication to access other services. The new EV6’s wireless charging pad also now features an improved design to prevent smartphones from slipping off.
Extended autonomy with the fourth-generation 84 kWh battery
Kia has equipped the new EV6 with a fourth-generation 84kWh battery to improve the vehicle’s range on a single charge and a choice of electric motor configurations that deliver a maximum of 239kW of power and 605Nm of torque for a superior driving experience and increased comfort. With these enhancements, the 2WD model now boasts a range of 494km on a single charge, up from 475km.
The fourth-generation battery has a higher energy density, increasing the capacity from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh for the new EV6. This not only extends the vehicle’s range, but also enables faster charging. Equipped with the same 350 kW ultra-fast charging system, the new battery can be recharged from 10 to 80% in less than 18 minutes. With the same charging time, the new EV6’s larger battery adds more range than its predecessor, increasing customer convenience.
Advanced comfort features for a class-leading mobility experience
Kia has enhanced the competitiveness of the new EV6 by equipping it with advanced infotainment features based on the brand’s SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) architecture . These customer-centric convenience features aim to enhance connectivity between the vehicle and the user.
The new EV6 features Kia’s next-generation infotainment system and Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC), providing a more convenient mobility experience. It also offers expanded OTA software updates to ensure the vehicle’s digital systems are kept up to date. The infotainment system includes streaming services for high-quality video and audio content, as well as accurate voice recognition capabilities for seamless use.
The new EV6 also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a walk-away locking feature that automatically locks the doors when the driver exits the vehicle with the key, an ‘e hi-pass’ system for cardless toll payment, Kia Digital Key 2 and a fingerprint authentication system.
To enhance safety and convenience, Kia has incorporated a number of Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features. These include Hands-on-Wheel Detection (HoD), Lane Following Assist 2 (LFA 2), Remote Smart Parking Assist 2 (RSPA 2) and Front, Side and Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist (PCA-F/S/R). These features assist the driver and enhance safety on every journey.
